Markdown Preview replaces the file in the same tab, PDFs render instead of showing as binary, CSV is syntax-highlighted, links in the terminal open as browser tabs, and browser tabs open and close where you expect.

Previews in Place

A pass over what happens when you open something. A preview now replaces the file it renders instead of crowding it, a PDF renders instead of showing as binary, CSV is highlighted, a link in the terminal stays in the app, and a handful of tabs that opened in the wrong place, or refused to close at all, behave.

Files

  • Markdown Preview swaps in place. Toggle Markdown Preview now replaces the source in the same tab, at the same position, instead of splitting the pane or adding a second tab. Toggling again brings the source back. The tab-bar button drives both directions; ⌃⇧M works from the source side, where an editor has focus.
  • PDFs render. A .pdf opens in a preview pane instead of pages of binary source text.
  • CSV is highlighted. Columns and quoting are recognized in .csv files. It is still a text editor, with no grid view.

Browser

  • File → New Browser opens a browser tab from the menu, alongside New File.
  • Links in the terminal open in Tranquil. ⌘-click (Ctrl-click on Windows and Linux) a URL in the terminal and it opens as a browser tab in the current window, rather than handing it to the OS default browser.

Automations

  • Registered automations are their own command namespace. They appear in the command palette as Run: name, no longer mixed in with the package's own Automations: commands.
  • Pane controls hide when they have nothing to act on. The tree-view controls (New File, New Folder, Refresh, Collapse All) are absent until a project folder is open, and the Markdown Preview button now shows on the preview side too, since the toggle works from either direction.

Fixes

  • ⌘W on a browser tab no longer hangs or silently does nothing. A page with its own unload handler used to be able to cancel the close with no prompt to answer; a page wedged in blocking JavaScript now gets a grace period and is then closed regardless.
  • ⌘T opens the new browser tab in the pane you are in. Starting from a file tab, it used to split off a new pane, and from anywhere else it did not.
  • A fast ⌘N, ⌘W, ⌘T no longer leaves a stray blank text tab behind.

Known limitations

Unchanged from v0.2.0: native builds and the in-app updater remain in private beta.
